Buckle Up!
My dad, Frank Adam Rota, retired from his 53-year hospitality career on his 72nd birthday in 2001. That career spanned 15 hotels across seven states—thirteen of them as General Manager. These hotels weren’t just places he worked; they were our homes.
When my father passed almost two years ago, I thought many of the incredible memories—and the experiences that inspired my own path through hospitality—were lost. Then I found a scrapbook, his résumés, and the letters of recommendation from every hotel. This treasure trove offered glimpses into how he was regarded, clues about why he made certain moves, and, most importantly, a timeline of where we lived and when.
I created Hospitality Inherited in part to share the piecing together my dad’s career and my childhood with clues from the hints he left behind…his keepsakes, letters, memories, and the ever-so-helpful internet. I also want to pay homage to the places and people who left lasting impressions—even if they were only in our lives for a short time, and how my aspirations and goals were shaped by being my father’s shadow. Finally, I hope to create and inspire conversations about Hospitality, reminding those of us who have made it our career, and what created the need to serve.
Hop on, as I share the wildly improbable life of a hotelman, one resume post at a time.
Warm regards,
Jenn
